Every two years I have been taking my engaged and culture-curious students on field trips to Russia and other post-soviet states: Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Georgia, Armenia...

We used to visit both urban centres and offbeat towns and villages focusing on the jewels of art and culture, and simply looking at the way people live.

Putin's aggression against Ukraine excludes Russia from my list. We will now focus on other unexplored corners of former Soviet empire.
